All literature is available for borrowing locally or by National or International Library Loan, except for books that are too old or precious or for unbound publications.
For members of the German Philatelic Federation (BDPh) special conditions apply for borrowing by mail.
Since mailing books from Germany to foreign countries is very expensive for postage, we try to accomodate wishes for pages or chapters by fotocopying. Please inquire about the cost.
How to use the Online Catalogue ?
Click on "Onlinekatalog". In the quick search you can enter title, keywords of a title or name/s of author/s
You have to take into account that our philatelic data-base is part of the entire Munich Public Library System. To do a thorough search you go to "Erweiterte Suche" in order to open an extended search window. Here you can restrict your search to Philatelic literature by entering "Zentralbibliothek/Philatelistische Bibliothek" in the scroll-down menu on top.
Enter your details and click on the button "Suchen". You will get a hit list.
A mouse click on any of the listed titles will get you to the next level, where you get the full bibliographic information on the book, including the document number for ordering the item to the reading room. Also you find the availability of the item at the bottom of the entry.
The listings in red (author, keywords, classification) can be cross-searched by clicking on the line.
Once you have entered a search do not use the browser buttons, instead use the buttons inside the search window.
Catalogues of Stamp Auction Houses can be found as title under "Briefmarkenauktion" + name of the auction house
Journals can be found under the title but it helps to look in "Erweiterte Suche" where you can add “Zeitschrift” in the line "Medienart". Otherwise you may get too many hits. Also you can find current society journals and series by entering the name of the society in the field "Institution"
How to search for your collecting interests by classification?
Go to "Erweiterte Suche"
Copy the classification and enter it in the line "Systematik"
Always add an * at the end to get possible subgroups as well

The basic group for countries contains the literature on stamps and everything that cannot be put into any of the sub-groups. Smaller countries may only have one or two sub-groups activated. In the German classification some of the sub-groups are a full group in the classification.
How to search for your collecting interests by philatelic keywords?
Go to "Erweiterte Suche" and enter your keyword in the line "Schlagwort"
The search of philatelic keywords is mainly useful for literature of the last 30 years; literature earlier than this has no keyword section. The philatelic keywords are generally used in a “keyword chain” together with a geographic term and a time frame.
Individual keywords and any keyword from the chain will be searched in combination by the system. We have added the English/American terms to all philatelic keywords, and these can be used in the search.
