Books, CDs, DVDs, eBooks and eAudios in many different languages and for language learning are among the offers provided by the Munich Public Library.

Books and Newspapers

Our collection includes contemporary novels and stories in 15 foreign languages - in Arabic, Chinese, Croatian, English, Farsi, French, Greek, Italian, Kurdish, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Spanish and Turkish.
We offer picture books, children‘s books and novels for teenagers and young adults in these 15 languages as well.
You’ll also find English audiobooks on CD.

Where can I find the foreign language collection?

All of our district libraries offer English books for adults as well as children. Mainly in the Stadtbibliothek im Motorama we have up-to-date editions of international newspapers and magazines on hand.

Language learning

Language learners can choose from a variety of course and grammar books, dictionaries, examination preparation materials and exercises, easy reading texts with Audio-CDs, newspapers and games. We have study materials for learning over 40 languages available, for beginners, advanced learners, and teachers.

Music, Movies and Gaming

Our library offers a wide selection of titles of all music genres on CD as well as international movies on DVD and BluRay in 37 different languages.

We have board games for children and adults as well as a variety of computer and console games for all ages.

The Library offers programmes and events which promote intercultural dialogue and multilingualism. They guarantee knowledge-sharing, culture-sharing and participation in education, and provide opportunities for cultivating foreign language skills and interest in other cultures.

Weltkinder

At the Weltkinder (“Children of the World”) programme series events, picture books are read aloud in different languages. Children can experience the story playfully and creatively in dialogue. Sometimes they also sing, play or do handicrafts. Please refer to our calendar of events to find out which languages are read aloud in which library.

The MusicLab

Looking to rehearse undisturbed with your own band? What about recording a song alone? Or even jamming spontaneously with others?
In the MusikLab on the first floor of the city library in HP8, musicians can sing, play instruments and make music together. In the soundproof room, recording equipment, microphones, some instruments and much more are available free of charge.

  • Who?

    Anyone with a valid library card can use the MusikLab free of charge. You can borrow a key chip at the service point in HP8 (2nd floor) for the duration of use.

  • When?

    Book the MusikLab
    Monday - Friday 10 AM - 7 PM
    Saturday 10 AM - 3 PM

    You can book up to two hours per day.

  • How?

    Reserve in person at HP8 at Service Point 1 or 2. Or call us at 089 48098 3313.
