Welcome to the Munich Public Library!
What the Munich Public Library offers
We are represented by over twenty municipal libraries throughout the city. With our library buses and the door-to-door library service, we bring the library to schools and directly to people with mobility impairments.
The Monacensia in the Hildebrandhaus, the Law Library in the Town Hall and our hospital libraries have services for special interests and requests.
We provide spaces for learning and for discussion, meeting and exchange. In events, we provide cultural and democratic education and support Munich’s citizens in mastering digital and social change. We seek to engage with them, learn together and test new forms of participation.
What do we offer you?
The Munich Public Library offers much more than the latest crime novel or the most popular children’s book. You will also find board and console games, eBooks and databases, films, TV series, audio books, Tonies, comics, foreign language novels and language textbooks, as well as digital access to thousands of current newspapers and magazines in more than 50 languages.
And what else?
Our libraries provide a place to spend time and hold events for people of all walks of life, ages and professions.
The use of all services offered by the Munich Public Library on site is free of charge. In every Munich Public Library you will find places to read, individual and group workstations as well as free WiFi and PCs.
Each district library is as individual as its neighbourhood and is an integral part of life in the area. The employees understand both the needs of their clients and the local conditions. The programme of events ranges from reading aloud and craft activities to children’s theatre, from literature breakfasts to cinema evenings. For pupils and senior citizens, new and old residents of Munich, families and clubs, city libraries are an important contact point.
